GM sales drop but SUV demand remains strong
Apr 3, 2019
General Motors reported quarterly sales that were 7% lower than the same quarter in 2018, but the firm stated that buyers are flocking towards its SUVs and crossovers. There are signs of a slowdown in the car industry in the US, but the surge in popularity of SUVs and crossover models has helped General Motors stay afloat. GM reported that SUV sales made up for 80% of total sales, offsetting the impact of sliding sales of sedans and other models. The company has paid attention to this trend and has decided to increase its focus on SUVs with two new models still to come this year and closing factories that make slow-selling sedans.
