Ford sales fall, but truck and SUVs surge in popularity
Apr 4, 2019
Ford reported a drop of 1.6% in sales, mostly driven by the decline in popularity of passenger cars, in contrast to the surge in popularity of the automaker's SUVs and pickup trucks. This is a trend that we have seen with other automakers, where customers move away from sedans and passenger cars toward higher-priced SUVs and trucks. Although sales are slowing down in the US, especially for smaller cars, customers are still paying high prices for new vehicles, according to analysts; prices of new cars are reaching all-time highs, while sales for cheaper vehicles continue to drop. Ford's pickup trucks, vans, and SUVs made up for 83% of the company's sales during the first quarter of 2019.
