ORNL creates de-icing technology for snowy roads

Dec 12, 2018
With winter weather comes unsafe driving conditions, and for authorities, it is mandatory to keep drivers safe on hazardous roadways, but for the government, it can be very costly, as around $1.5 billion are spent each year in the United States. A new de-icing technology created by the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory could help make roads safer while staying in the budget, through the technique of high-resolution modeling, a few prototypes are currently undergoing tests on some of their trucks, and a device will apply a chemical agent that will help minimize waste and de-frost unsafe roads.
