Airlines cancel flights due to a winter storm

Airlines all across the U.S. had to cancel over 1,900 flights after winter storm Avery impacted the Northeast harder than expected with almost a foot of snow. Most airlines, including Delta, Southwest, and Spirit offered claim fees to its passengers stuck in the East Coast. According to some news sources, around 2,600 flights were canceled, and 12,500 flights were put on hold as well. The New York area was the most affected due to poor weather conditions, the Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia had the most canceled flights.
