Human contractors are listening to Google Assistant recordings
Jul 11, 2019
According to an investigation done by Dutch authorities, Google has hired several human workers to listen to audio clips recorded by Google Assistant, much like what Amazon's Alexa has been reported to do so. Companies that use AI assistants state that audio recordings are necessary to improve the systems regarding recognition of commands, but only a small percentage of recordings are taken for review. It was also reported that the recordings could sometimes be taken by mistake, which can lead to workers listening to personal and sensitive information. In Google's privacy terms, this event is not listed, and it could be breaking the EU's GDPR regulations.
