A newly discovered species Moros intrepidus has been found in Utah, and its fossil dates from about 96 million years ago. Accordingly to experts, it's an example of what a Tyrannosaurus looked like early in their evolution, and the estimations suggest that M. intrepidus was about a size of a modern mule deer (a meter tall at the hip), weighing about 78 kg when fully grown. They described it as a fast animal, with advanced sensory capabilities, which made it a formidable predator. This fossil filled a 70 million year gap in this group's fossil record and helped the researchers estimate that it took Tyrannosaurus less than 15 million years to become the biggest predators.
