Istanbul to be hit by major earthquake
Jul 11, 2019
Experts have warned that Istanbul could be facing an earthquake that would be bigger than the one that hit California last week. Turkey's capital lies close to the North Anatolian fault, which is under the Sea of Marmara. In the past, this fault has wreaked havoc and killed thousands, and because it's under the sea, experts have struggled to predict such disasters. However, a recent study has revealed the area is locked, which led scientists to conclude that a major earthquake is building up and that it would reach a magnitude larger than seven.
