Justice Department is demanding the FDA to release held lethal injections
May 15, 2019
The Justice Department of the US has released a statement saying that the Food and Drugs Administration does not have legal jurisdiction over lethal injections meant for capital punishment. The 26-page article is referring to the 2015 seizing of at least 1,000 bottles of sodium thiopental, a drug that is used to paralyze muscles and stop a person's heart. The FDA has since imported the drug from overseas while still holding the available lots under the allegation that the imported lots were unapproved and misbranded. The Justice Department has also stated that the drug does not enter into the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, placing it instead under the Justice Department's umbrella.
