Fiat Chrysler (FCA) has partnered with electric automaker Tesla to avoid FCA gets fined for breaking EU regulations regarding emissions. Under the new agreement, Tesla's cars will be counted as part of FCA's fleet to bring emissions levels down on average to what is allowed by the European Union. The EU allows carmakers to work together and create what it is called an open pool to bring down their emissions, but none had done it before until FCA decided to do it. FCA has fallen behind its rivals when it comes to developing electric vehicles, but it recently announced an investment of $10bn to that end.
